Understanding Islam

Redhill Jamia Mosque Al Mustafa (also known as the Redhill Islamic Centre) is well-regarded in Surrey for its inclusive and welcoming environment.

If you are a new Muslim or thinking about converting, they provide several layers of support to help you navigate your journey.

Initial Guidance:

Direct Support and Mentoring

The mosque is a central hub for the Surrey Muslim community and provides both formal spiritual guidance and connections to professional mental health resources.

What We Offer

Shahada Services

We provide a supportive environment for those wishing to take their testimony of faith. We can arrange for this to be a private moment or a community celebration, depending on your comfort level.

The "Buddy" System

We can pair you with a seasoned member of the community who has been through a similar journey. Having a friend to sit with during Friday prayers or to grab a coffee with makes all the difference.

Wudu & Salah

Practical workshops on how to perform ablution and the five daily prayers.

The Basics of Creed

Understanding the pillars of Islam and faith at your own pace.

Arabic for Beginners

Gentle introductions to reading the Quran

A Safe Space for Questions

There is no such thing as a "silly question" here. We know that navigating family dynamics, lifestyle changes, and new terminology can be overwhelming. Our Imam and community leads are available for private consultations to provide clarity and emotional support.

Supporting New Muslims:

Supporting New Muslims: If we truly love someone, we want them to be the best version of themselves. We can support the new Muslims in our life by encouraging their growth, attempting to understand their decisions, learning about their faith, and being thoughtful of their feelings and needs. Undoubtedly they will enhance our lives in return, by teaching us a new perspective and sharing exciting new facets of themselves.

Our mentoring programme is designed to connect new Muslims with experienced mentors who can guide them through their early days in Islam. These mentors offer personalised support, answering questions, providing guidance, and helping reverts understand and practice their new faith with confidence.

Education is a cornerstone of our support system. We offer a variety of classes that cover fundamental aspects of Islam, including: Basic Islamic Beliefs and Practices: Understanding the core tenets of Islam. Qur'an and Hadith Studies: Learning to read, interpret, and apply Islamic teachings. Arabic Language Classes: Building basic proficiency to enhance religious practice and understanding. These educational opportunities equip new Muslims with the knowledge they need to thrive and grow in their faith.

Islam is a faith of community. Beyond the prayer hall, we host social gatherings, tea mornings, and educational circles designed to help you build lasting friendships with your brothers and sisters in borough of Reigate & Benstead.

If you are new to the area or new to the faith, we’d love to meet you.

Community Beyond the Prayer Mat

Being a member of Redhill Jamia Mosque signifies being a member of the broader Surrey community.

Interfaith Dialogue: Building bridges with our neighbors at local churches and community centers.

When I first walked into the Redhill Islamic Centre, I was worried I wouldn't fit in because I'm not South Asian. Within five minutes, I was handed a cup of tea and introduced to three other people who had converted years ago. It felt like home immediately." —

First Steps

The New Muslim Checklist

If you have just taken your Shahada, here is a suggested way to ease into the practice without burning out:

To become a Muslim, you must declare the Shahada with conviction, the testimony of faith: "Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah" (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His messenger)..

Don't worry about the "Sunnah" (extra) prayers yet. Focus on getting the five daily obligatory prayers right.

While we pray in Arabic, we encourage you to read the translation of the prayers. Knowing what you are saying helps build a spiritual connection.

You don't need to know everyone. Just finding one person you feel comfortable texting with questions makes the journey much easier.

Islam is a marathon, not a sprint. We recommend focusing on one new habit or piece of knowledge per week.

That’s where the New Muslim Academy comes in. When you become a member of the New Muslim Academy, you’ll have access to a great community of people and resources that are relevant to your needs. RIC instructors are highly qualified and have been teaching Islam around the globe for many years.
