Nikah Ceremonies & Weddings

Nikah (marriage) is a sacred social contract between bride and groom and is strongly encouraged in Islam. It is declared to be one half of a Muslim’s faith. In another narration the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has been reported to have said: Do not delay in three things: 1) The offering of the obligatory prayer 2) The offering of the funeral prayer when the deceased’s body is present 3) The marriage of a woman when her suitable match is found.
As-salamu alaykum—Peace be upon you all.

The Core Components of Nikah:

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “The Nikah is from my Sunnah (tradition),” making it an act of worship when performed with the correct intention, and a source of reward. Additionally, Allah states in the Qur’an, addressing the Prophet: “We certainly sent before you many Messengers, and We granted them spouses and offspring.” (Quran: 13:38). This shows that Nikah is not only part of the Sunnah of our Beloved Prophet but was also practiced by the Prophets who came before him.

Requirements for Booking
Notice Period: It is highly recommended to book your date at least 14 to 21 days in advance.

Important Legal Information:

Redhill Jamia Mosque Al Mustafa issues a Nikkah certificate; however, it is not authorised to solemnize marriages under English law. As a result, a Nikkah conducted in the UK does not represent a legally recognized marriage and does not provide legal marital rights. It is essential for couples to arrange a civil marriage at a register office in compliance with English law, either right before or after the Nikkah ceremony, to guarantee enforceable legal rights for both individuals in the event of marriage dissolution or death. Additionally, we serve as a venue for the registry office marriage, and you may inquire for further details from our Head Imam (Mian Sajid Latif Qadri).

Capacity & Guests: While the Nikah is often a private affair with just close family, if you're planning on inviting more than 15–20 people, you must clear this with the management first. Space in the prayer halls is prioritised for worship.

Photography: Usually, mosques are okay with respectful photography of the signing, but always ask the Imam for permission before the ceremony begins. Some Imams prefer that photos aren't taken during the actual recitation of the Khutbah.

Essential Identification

Pro Tip: Make photocopies of all these documents in advance. While the Imam will need to see the originals to verify them, they will often keep a photocopy for the mosque's permanent records.

Notice of Marriage

You must sign a legal statement at your local register office to say you intend to get married or form a civil partnership. This is known as 'giving notice'.

Civil Ceremonies

A Nikah confirms your Islamic Marriage, however, to have your marriage legally recognised in the UK, you must undertake a Civil Ceremony.

Redhill Jamia Mosque is an authorised centre for the solemnisation of Civil Marriages. Uniquely, we have our own in-house civil registrars, allowing couples to complete both their Nikah and Civil Marriage ceremonies at the same time.

You will need to obtain the necessary paperwork from your local registry office before we can undertake the Civil Ceremony, which usually takes 4-6 weeks.

To enable Redhill Jamia Mosque to solemnise your Civil Marriage , you are required to give notice of your intention to marry, both of you must attend, in person, to the Superintendent Registrar of the Registration District in which you each live.It is crucial for couples to have a civil marriage conducted at a register office in accordance with English law, either immediately before or after the Nikkah ceremony, to ensure enforceable legal rights for both parties in cases of marriage breakdown or death.
