Proud to be serving hundreds of Muslims in Surrey
Dr. Syed Abdul Qadir Shah Jilani (R.A). Known as Mufakkir-e-Islam was a frequent visitor to Redhill, and many of his most significant talks were recorded there. If you are browsing the mosque’s audio archives, you will find his contributions often cover these themes:
Muqam-e-Mustafa (The Status of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ): He was a staunch defender of the high spiritual rank of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم , often using his legal and theological background to explain complex concepts to the congregation.
About 19 years ago, Dr Syed Abdul Qadir Shah Jilani (R.A) spearheaded a movement that significantly enhanced the visibility of the Muslim community in the region. He was the visionary founder who started the Milad-ul-Nabi procession in Surrey.
A Public Celebration of Love: Before this initiative, the celebration of the Prophet’s birth was mainly confined to the mosque. Dr Syed Abdul Qadir Shah Jilani (R.A) took the message of "Peace and Mercy for all Mankind" to the streets.
Unity Across Towns: By organizing this procession, he brought together the Muslims of Redhill, Reigate, and surrounding areas, creating a lively display of green flags and heartfelt nasheeds (hymns) that highlighted the community's presence and pride.
Cultural Bridge-Building: He ensured that these processions were inclusive, welcoming not just Muslims. He used them as a chance to showcase the beauty of Islamic traditions to the wider Surrey community, inviting neighbours and local officials to witness the peaceful and joyous spirit of the faith.
His Legacy in Redhill
The fact that the Surrey Milad procession continues to this day is a testament to the foundation he laid nearly two decades ago. For the worshippers at Al-Mustafa, he wasn't just a visiting guest; he was the spiritual architect of their community life. His teachings transformed the mosque from a simple place of prayer into a hub of intellectual and spiritual revival.
The Resident Head Imam: The spiritual guidance for the procession and the "Mehfil" (the gathering after the walk) comes from the mosque's Head Imam Mian Sajid Latif Qadri. He leads the recitations and delivers the keynote speeches about the life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
